Education
For several years, FLM has served as the training ground for graduate students in Counselling and Clinical Psychology at tertiary institutions. Supervision is given to the students by the cadre of seasoned professional counselors on staff at FLM. Practicum-level students, visiting observers and counselors-in-training have consistently reported an informative and rewarding experience they receive from their time invested at Family Life Ministries.
Workshops and Seminars
We prepare and develop presentations, talks, seminars and workshops on a variety of family and life issues, such as parenting, marital issues, change and stress management, workplace effectiveness and conflict resolution. These presentations are available to schools, businesses, and community-based organizations. Simply call our head office and explain your need, and we will craft the seminar or workshop that is right for you.
Play Therapy
Individual, family and group play therapy uses the therapeutic powers of play within a supportive relationship of unconditional acceptance to help families and children prevent or resolve social, emotional and behavioural difficulties, improve communication and coping skills, and achieve optimal growth and development. Children often have difficulty expressing their thoughts and feelings in words, but play provides a psychologically safe context for children to address their difficulties because it is naturally enjoyable and removed from the "real world".
Through play with games, toys, and expressive arts, FLM counsellors help children to find outlet for their feelings, gain experience, increase their socio-emotional skills, and gain mastery over difficulties. And adults can find relief in talking over their difficulties with an FLM counsellor. Play therapy is suitable for all ages, and is particularly helpful for infants, toddlers and children from birth to 12 years of age.
Employee Assistance Programme
As our country faces economic and other challenges, productivity levels are being monitored constantly, as organizations aim at improving the returns on their investment. The importance and immeasurable value of human capital is recognized as one of the most important inputs for greater productivity. The EAP is a programme tailor-made to meet the specific needs of an organization, by providing confidential counselling and referral services to employees, to assist them in resolving personal, family and workplace issues that may impact negatively on job performance. Organisations are encouraged to call the FLM Head Office for details on the EAP package that is suitable for your employees' needs.
FLM provides EAP services island-wide through a cadre of professionals who are available to: meet with employees and their families; answer a 24-hour counselling hotline; conduct workshops on general problems which impact the well-being of employees; direct orientation sessions with managers and supervisors, to educate them on detecting mental-health problems at the workplace, dealing with troubled employees and other related issues.

Fresh Start
Fresh Start is a Divorce Recovery Ministry which meets regularly on 3rd Saturdays at the FLM Conference Centre in Kingston. Since April 2000, this support group has greatly benefited those going through the pain of separation and/or divorce. Persons from the group who have been remarried have testified that Fresh Start helped in their healing and their ability to cope with another relationship, and other members have also indicated that they have been helped in their self confidence, their ability to forgive, their self-esteem, their faith in God and their general ability to cope in managing their finances, legal issues, parenting and themselves.
The ground rules of Fresh Start include respect for confidentiality. Members are told that "It's okay to tell anyone that you attended Fresh Start but it's not okay to tell anyone who you saw there." No one is pressured to share, but all are given the opportunity to tell their story. The emphasis of the group is on healing, personal growth and forgiveness, and also addresses the grief reaction, sexuality, guilt, rejection, the spiritual and social/emotional challenges of remarriage, readjusting to the single life, growing through divorce, boundaries in dating, understanding the needs of the opposite sex and loneliness.
Please call our Head Office to make an appointment for Fresh Start. Come join a group of fellow overcomers, and let the healing begin.
Radio Ministry
FLM is the proud proprietor of Family Time ® , a discussion and telephone call-in radio programme that was once the longest-running programme on Jamaican radio. Returning to the air in 2010, the programme picks up where it left off, adding new features, hosts, and greater youth involvement, while maintaining the expert illumination of relevant family and community issues; a characteristic that made it so popular for twenty years.
Family Time ® brings expert Christian perspectives to the central issues of family relationships, such as parenting, intimacy, friendship, conflict resolution, value building, finance, etc, facilitating public dialogue, understanding and counsel with the presentation and examination of facts, opinion, emotion and exposé on these matters.
Public Programmes
As an authority on family life, capable of providing information and helpful understanding of how to address the issues and topics that are related to family, FLM provides a teaching programme with an evangelical thrust to Parent/Teachers Associations (PTAs), churches and other gatherings. Call the Head Office to have us fashion a teaching programme specifically to suit your needs.
Camps, Retreats & Date Nights
When was the last time you went to a Couples' Retreat, Singles' Camp or Family Getaway? FLM offers these times of relaxation, interaction and instruction throughout the year. Families, couples, and single adults have these wonderful opportunities to learn strategies for healthy, God-centred lives, as they bond and grow with others who have similar desires and goals.
Research, Writing and Resource Centre
Family Life Ministries has long been involved in the collection and dissemination of information and studies on family life as experienced in the Caribbean. This information, along with other resources, is available at the Head Office and through our various public programmes.
FLM also serves as a resource and referral centre on family-related concerns, and sells books, magazines and audiotapes, chosen for their expert advice and wisdom, to help readers as they navigate thorny problems, and build better relationships with God and the people around us.
